The 2025 Over 75s Merit was held on Streetly Meths for both the qualifying round and finals day. Thank you to Streetly Meths and host Robert Crook for their hospitality .The green and facilities were excellent on both occasions. The finalists were Alan Wincott, who after fighting back from 20 - 15 down was holding 2 shots for game , before Maurice Haycock found the winner to reach the final. The other semi final saw Tony Freeth take an early 8 - 0 lead against Eddie Musgrave and held on to claim a 21 - 9 win. In the final Tony Freeth again had a great start and went into a 10 - 0 lead. Maurice bowled very well and fought back for a while, but that lead proved to be too much and Tony pressed on again to win 21 - 9. Well done Tony and thanks again to Streetly Meths. |

ANN DANKS OF THE QUESLETT IS THE LADIES MERIT WINNER The Ladies Merit Finals was held at Sutton Park and it was a great morning with some excellent bowling. The Winner Ann Danks beat Denise Palmer of Coleshill in the final. Denise did lead 12-9 and was bowling well Ann started playing better and went on to win 21-13. . Denise had a marathon semi-final match v Maureen Gamble who recently won the 2025 Individual Merit, winning 21-20 Ann beat Kay Musgrave in the other semi final bowling consistently well . Well done to Ann + thanks to Sutton Park for being fantastic hosts they made everyone welcome + everything went well |
|
The final of this season's pairs merit was held at the Greville and the winners were husband and wife pairing of Karen and Bill Kinchin of Moseley CC. They played consistently well all morning and after beating clubmates Kay and Eddie Musgrave and then the Wilnecote pair of Gordon Bath and Paul Colin, they had to play Bernie Boyle and Kim Overton of the Bradford in the final. Bernie and Kim played exceptionally well in their first 2 games and had played very well on a tricky mark straight away from the pavilion to the far edge and back. The Kinchins realised this and played the opposite way and the Bradford pair failed to get on that mark. Karen and Bill eventually won 21 - 11. Congratulations to them and thanks to the Greville for their hospitality, the green was in great condition. |

Congratulations to Maureen Gamble of the Banbury bowling club on winning the 2025 EBOS INDIVIDUAL MERIT. She is the first ever lady to win this merit and she played brilliantly all morning on the fantastic Water Orton green. Her quarter final win was against Andy Redman of Coleshill and then in the Semi Final she beat Roy Woolley of the Greville. In the other Semi Final, Paul Shingler of the Bradford came from 20-15 down to edge out Andy Hartwell of Moor Lane, who was looking a certain finalist. Maureen beat Paul 21-14 in the final and it was no surprise to anybody. She led particular well in all her games and could not be shaken off by any of her opponents, wherever they took her. Thoroughly deserved win to one of the most improved players in our league. Maureen now plays on Monday 7th July at Sutton Park in the Ladies Merit Final to try to achieve a very unique double. Thanks to Keith Hanley and all at Water Orton for hosting this final. The green and your hospitality were fantastic. |

The 2025 EBOS bowls season starts with league matches on the 8th/9th April and I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable and successful year. Unfortunately the admission of a 2nd Woodbourne Social team didn't work out and division 6 now is back to 10 teams. As the division 6 fixtures had already been formed then the games scheduled with Woodbourne B will now be byes. Please support our merits this year, especially the new ladies Merit.....as an incentive £50 has been added to the prize money of the individual and the ladies merits. We would hope to see more entries in both competitions. There are 3 representatives games this season. These are fantastic events and all players in the association are welcome to put their names forward to be considered for selection. Please do that if you are interested, we need 24 players for each match. So good luck to everybody and I hope we have a beautiful summer to enjoy our great game. |

The 2024 Over 75s Merit was won by Chris Hall of Hollyfields. Played at Walmley bowls club which was in superb condition, Chris beat Alan Wincott of the Greville in the semi final 21-17. Chris was trailing 15-10 when a sudden downpour stopped the game for a while and Chris raised his game to reach the final. Dave Calthorpe of NIFO won the other semi final with a great performance to beat John Welham of Hamstead 21-7. Unfortunately for Dave he couldn't continue that form in the final and Chris bowled very well to win the final 21-14. Congratulations Chris and a big thank you to Walmley for their hospitality. |
|
This year's pairs champions are Steve Green and Mark Galvin of Bradford Arms. After a very close game and last bowl win of 21-20 in the quarter final against Chris Hall and Graham Bowden of Hollyfields, the Bradford pair settled down and bowled consistently well and got through to the final to play Paul Johnson and Gary Smith of Water Orton. Paul and Gary had played very well and with Paul's experience to find a tricky mark across a ridge in the centre of the green, they made it to the final. Now Steve and Mark were getting better end after end and broke away to become champions with a 21- 9 win. Thanks to Erdington Cons for the use of their green and for their hospitality. |
|
The first ever EBOS ladies merit was won by Joan Ingram of Boldmere St. Michaels. It was a great morning at Hollyfields, the green was superb and there was a great atmosphere around the place. The 8 finalists all played well . There were some close games and some easier won games, and it was Joan and Dot Greenwood of Coleshill Social who made it to the final. Both ladies played brilliantly all through the game and it was totally unpredictable who would win. It went to the last end and where Dot was beating Joan's woods consistently, this time she just went past the jack to leave Joan the winning shot. 21-20 to Joan and a fantastic morning thoroughly enjoyed by everybody. Thanks to Hollyfields and the EBOS committee members who helped with measuring and refereeing. |
|
The 2024 Individual Merit Champion is Paul Johnson of Water Orton. Played on the excellent green at the Raven after some very tight quarter final matches , the semi finals saw Roy Woolley of the Greville against Tony Freeth of the Brookhill. A very close exciting game was just won 21 20 by Roy. In the other semi final Paul faced Steve Green of Bradford Arms and Paul was very consistent on a very tricky mark to get to the final 21 16. So in the final Roy started well and led 7-2, then Paul got on the same mark again and played superbly and romped into a massive 18 -7 lead. The game finished 21-12 to Paul to take this year's title. Well done Paul and thanks to Tony Westwood and the Raven for their hospitality. |

The sample of the new EBOS shirt has arrived and a photo of it modelled by Tony Freeth is on the front page of our website...Tony said that the quality is excellent and these shirts are available at £27... Other clothing merchandise is also available from the company who supplied the shirts , all with the EBOS logo on. Text 07726 165108 to order with name and size. |
|
Tony Freeth, our representative team manager, has been looking into getting some polo shirts with the EBOS logo/badge on. He would like as many of the representative team players to wear them as the team would look really impressive if most or all wore the same outfit. The shirts are white polo with black panels down the side and have the EBOS logo at the top. The quality of the shirts is excellent and the cost is £27. The minimum order is 15, the EBOS committee are buying them so we now are up to about 9 to order. If anyone is interested ,whether in the representative team or not please text me on 07726 165108 to let me know the size that you want. This needs to be done as soon as possible to get up to the minimum of 15 and in time for the first match in June. Thank you Pete. |

EBOS 2023 OVER 75s MERIT FINAL The finals day of the Over 75s merit was played at Ward End Social on a green that was in very good condition and despite overnight rain was running quite quickly. The first semi final was Maurice Haycock of NIFO against Alan Wincott of the Greville. Maurice was in great form and bowled exceptionally well and made it to the final with a 21-7 win. The 2nd semi final saw Chris Hall of Hollyfields take an early lead against Brian Yourell of Moor Lane. Chris was continually improving his lead , but then Brian started clawing his way back and looked as though he could take the game really close. Then with Brian holding 2 good bowls on a long mark , Chris found a winning shot and then went on again to win 21-16. The final was nip and tuck all the way through the game, both players trying the marks they were successful on in the semis. It was always looking like it would be a close finish and at 19 across Chris lead out and with 3 bowls sent it was difficult to see who was counting, then Maurice came in with the winner and just touched the jack towards his other bowl also to count 2 and take the title 21-19. It was a great final with superb bowling . Well done to Maurice and thank you to Fred Tovey and Ward End Social for making us very welcome. ebos2023 |

TREBLE COMPLETED !!!! The East Birmingham Over 60s Representative team finished this season's fixtures with an outstanding performance against the very strong Dudley and District League. This fixture has had disasterous results in the past and could be the first time we have ever beaten them. BUT WHAT A WIN. At Banbury we had 8 winners and a convincing 50 shot win. Amazingly away at Langley we had a fantastic 11 winners and managed a 3 figure win of exactly 100 shots. Thanks to every person involved in all 3 matches this year and to our captains Tony Freeth and Chris Hall for their very hard work to enable us to get these great results. Once again thank you to Banbury Bowling Club for the use of their green and another superb buffet. |

2023 EBOS PAIRS MERIT The finals of the Pairs Merit were played on a very damp Monday morning at Erdington Conservative Club. A lot of overnight rain stopped just in time for the green to be prepared and play was possible. The first Semi final saw Peter Graham and Mike Jenkins of Boldmere St. Miichaels take a massive 11-0 lead against Moor Lanes Brian Yourell and Paul Smith. This lead went to 16-4 before Brian and Paul staged a big comeback. At 20-15 down the Laners lay 4 on in the corners, but Peter found a great bowl to pick the jack up for game. Coleshill Social pair of Bob Jones and Dave Morris also took an early lead of 7-1 in the other Semi final. Then Tony Freeth and Tony Aubury of the Brookhill picked up the weight of the green and went to 18-7 up before eventually winning to 12. So the 2022 winners from the Brookhill were in the final again looking to retain their title. They continued to play very tight and consistently and it proved too much for Peter and Mike. The 2 Tonys won 21-6 and deservedly won the pairs merit again. Thanks to ERDINGTON CONS for the use of the green. |
